Digital Radiography

Digital Radiography

Traditionally, an x-ray is taken, the film (i.e. radiograph) is placed in a machine that develops the radiograph, which usually takes 5-10 minutes. The radiograph, which is a couple of inches in size, is placed on a “view box” where the dentist then reads the radiograph.

With digital radiography, a sensor reads the image and sends the information to the computer. The high quality image is displayed on our 19 inch monitor within about 5 seconds. Also, this image can be modified and manipulated to increase the information the dentist can get from the radiograph. Not only is the image of better quality, it is done with about 90% less radiation than traditional film.
